We had a wedding this weekend and an 8 hour drive, one way. Since we had to leave very early on the 4th we missed our town’s parade and festivities. Planning in advanced we had bought tickets to see an orchestra/firework show on the 2nd at this great historic village we have nearby. Unfortunately Thunderstorms prevented us from going. It was very disappointing. Then we figured we would get the kids outside once we checked into our hotel and watch the local show. Well, there was a bit of a problem with the hotel (not enough rooms due to a fire the previous week, so we were shuttled off to another hotel). By the time we got into our room and settled there was no way we were going to strap the kids back into their car seats and brave the drizzle and mosquitoes to go see the show down by the river. We ended up watching them on TV. Hardly the end of our 4th of July unit I was hoping for… but we had a fun weekend anyway.
It was my cousin’s wedding and it was a lot of fun to see all the family together. The kids had so much fun dancing the night away and ‘A’ got to see his crush… my college aged cousin who is super sweet to the kids. And of course the highlight for them was… the hotel pool… the quintessential kid vacation maker. You can go anywhere and as long as there is a pool at the hotel it is a great vacation in their minds.
Video coming as soon as soon as I get a chance. I need to remember how to save it correctly and upload it to photobucket.

Great family pic! It’s so hard to get one of those sometimes. That is very disappointing about the orchestra/fireworks show on the 2nd. I know you were looking forward to it. We had a great 4th, but didn’t keep the kids up for fireworks. They had stayed up late the night before with sleepover guests, and were way too cranky!! Especially when the fireworks don’t start until 9:30pm.
Michelle, have you seen the Artful Parent blog as yet? I just re-discovered it today. Her post about making nature prints out of Sculpey made me think of you, as it seemed like something that you and the kids would enjoy doing.

There are so many blogs out there. It is hard to even remember which ones you liked to go back too. I have been there before… once upon a time. LOL. Thanks for the link – it does look cool. Someone mentioned trying it in salt dough… I think I might try it that way. We made salt dough ornaments last Christmas that held up really well.
It is a great pic. Uh, I think I was suppose to take it…sorry! It turned out to be a great weekend with lots of wonderful catching up…Reunions are wonderful ways to spend the 4th, so it was still in keeping with the summer celebration!
