This week’s Unplugged Theme was Soft. When I was picking up a few art supplies last week I ran across some magic sponge kits. I remember thinking that they were fun as a child. I choose the farm kit to tie in with our harvest activities we are doing for school.
The kids had fun watching the magic unfold, as the sponges came to life in the bowl of warm water. They were squealing and trying to guess what each one was before it opened all the way and I believe there were some sponge races going on…. “Look, look, mine’s opening first!”
After all the sponges were freed from the capsules, we dipped them in finger paint to make farm animal prints. The images turned out fuzzy at best but it was a fun and easy activity.

It is always fun watching the compressed sponges take shape. I’m glad you guys enjoyed it. It looks like it might have been a little hard painting with them, they were kind of little, but it’s always fun to paint, isn’t it?
I always loved those kits. I never thought about painting with them though. What a great idea.
And to think I thought those sponge things weren’t good after they “grew.” Thanks for the great idea!
Those sponges are lots of fun, and I like how you’ve found a second use for them after they’ve expanded.

I would love to see more of your nature table. This looks like something I might be interested in for my preschoolers. Do u have a post on ur blog about it? Great blog BTW.

No, I don’t have any pictures of our nature table. I will try and get some posted. It is kind of in a transition period right now. I’ve cleared away most of the summer finds, bird feathers, droopy dandelions and such but I will work on getting some photos.
Thanks for the compliment on the blog. I’m finding it is a great way to keep track of our homeschooling endeavors and is keeping me organized – for now at least ;).
