A highlight this week has been the birds. Our bird feeder is becoming a hub of activity as the temperature drops. It is adding a lot of excitement to breakfast and lunch while the birds dine right outside the kitchen window.

Chess is one of Bug’s favorite pass times and he is quickly going to surpass my skills. I can see his brain ticking away, calculating all the possible moves. Our local homeschool group has started up a Chess Club and I’m sure he will be ready for it next year.
The girls discovered the wooden pattern beads and have been requesting them daily for “math time.”

If I had to make a choice between money for t.v. or money for bird seed, feeding the birds would win, hands down! Watching birds, and the ubiquitous squirrels that seem to “come with the frame”, provide untold joy year round! It’s especially nice that you can watch them while you dine.
We LOVE our bird feeders! Of course, we’ve been lacking in birds lately since it’s almost empty and I need to refill it. It’s like they tell their friends, so they all know that it’s empty, but as soon as you refill it, they are back almost instantly. We’ve been having to refill it a lot lately. They must all be stocking up for winter.
We were going for a good week without having to refill the feeder, than all of a sudden this week they are emptying almost half of it a day or more. It rained pretty hard for 4 days straight and we were joking that they were eating away because they were staying somewhat dry sitting in the feeder. It was so crazy that there was seriously a bird on every single perch in there at one point. Normally we don’t get more than 2 at a time (one on either side). Hopefully this won’t be too costly for the winter. We had thought about a second feeder near the front window… but at this rate I don’t think we can keep up with two ;).
