I whipped up this little game at the crack of dawn before the kiddos woke up. It was a fun surprise for them. I gathered a bed from our doll house, one of our Ostheimer princesses, a green wooden bead and a stack of fabric scrapes (turned into mattresses) to put together this Princess and the Pea inspired game. We took turns seeing how many mattresses we could stack up and without having the princess fall off the bed. Everyone was giggling like crazy.
Here is how I made the mattresses. I measured the base of the bed… 4"x5.75"… then added a 1/2" for seam allowance and cut out 20 pieces for ten mattresses. I choose to use a couple of red and white stripped fabrics that resembled bed ticking. I placed them right sides together and stitched around the edge leaving a 1" opening for turning. I turned the mattress right side out, stuffed loosely with fiberfill (if they are too puffy and you will never get them balanced – a layer or two of batting would probably work even better) and finished off the open seam. It was a very quick project… which was a very good thing at 6am when I decided I had to have if for the day.
